What is the ‘Share your raver flashback’ storytelling project about?

This is a project that aims to celebrate 25 years or more of western Canadian electronic dance music and culture.

We invite anyone to submit a personal story to be added to a digital public archive.

What are the goals of this project?

This is a social experiment with the goals of building an archive of stories about western Canadian electronic dance music culture. We aim to celebrate history and put it on record.

We dream of collecting a large archive of stories to live in a documentary or Canadian history museum.

Who can participate?

Anyone that has a legendary and celebratory story to tell.

What are suggested story topics?

The world is your archive!

We are seeking stories that can help explain what it means to discover and engage in a transformational culture.

Suggested themes:

Innovation

Community and culture building

Volunteerism

Pride

Losing yourself and then finding yourself

How do I write my story?

Stories can range from two sentences to up to 1,500 words.

We prefer stories written in the first-person.

For example…

“This one time I went to a rave…”

“It was 2007, I had no idea how my life would change when I followed the bass.”

How do I submit a story?

Stories can be sent through this form for review.

What is the review process?

Stories will be reviewed by a team of moderators before being posted.

We will respond over email advising if your story has been approved for posting, declined or requires further review.

What stories will be declined?

We welcome wild and WIKKID stories, but will decline any stories that defame individuals, organizations or business practices. This is a volunteer-led project that aims to celebrate. We acknowledge that there is a dark side in the world of entertainment.

Unfortunately, we do not have the capacity or resources to assess or publish stories about people, businesses or practices that have caused personal harm.

What does it mean if I’m told my story is under review?

Some of the most WIKKID stories submitted will require a review process.

We want to fact check and ensure that consent has been provided to publish stories about legendary moments in time.

Can I submit anonymously?

Absolutely. We are dedicated to protecting identities.

How can I support the ‘Share your raver flashback’ project?

Write your raver flashback story and encourage others to write theirs!

We are also recruiting experienced entertainment journalists and digital marketers to support this project.
